Help Homeless Dogs!

Adoption Success Story: Max

Max came to us in February. We were told he was a wonderful dog without any issues....boy were we fooled. Poor Max had been abused so badly as a puppy that he wouldn't let anyone touch his back end. He peed everytime you went to pet him because he was so frightened and he would bite any child under 12 that tried to pet him. However, we saw how precious he was despite his faults. We got him nutered and continued to work on his behavior until he would let us pet him all over without biting us and only peed when he got too excited. Still, how were we ever going to find him a home without kids??? Well, this wonderful young woman came to PetSmart two weeks ago just to "see what we had". For Max, it was love at first sight!!! She fostered him and recently send us this e-mail:

As Max's new "foster mom", I thought I'd check in and let you know that... The moment he got into the apartment, he dragged me about to sniff absolutely every corner, crevice, piece of furniture (and as far as he could get his nose under the furniture), every book on my bookshelf, and every single bit of wall he could get his nose on. Once I thought him satisfied with how everything smelled, which I could tell mainly from the way his back end started to slow down from vibrating to some sort of wagging motion, I let him off the leash. However, when I did that, he promptly walked right over to my trash can and decided that he would make sure that every dog knew that that particular item in my apartment was his. With a quick "No! No, no no!" I was able to get his leash on and take him outside. After relieving himself on the closest bush, he then began his quest to mark every vertical thing within a mile of my apartment.

Anyway. Once all the greetings subsided, he found "his spot" near my computer desk. Also, he sleeps at the foot of my bed at night. He's very sweet. My little sisters came over, and knowing that he was skittish around younger people, I warned them to let him come to them before anything. But, it turns out I was worried for nothing, because once they walked through the door, they were immediately bombarded with wet floppy ears (as he always wants more attention after he's placed his entire face in a bowl of water) and dog breath. Me, my boyfriend, and my two little sisters then all took a seat on the floor, in a circle, and he was ecstatic though confused. He spent the majority of his time running around the circle, not sure who's lap to finally sit in. He has not had an accident at all in the house since he tried marking my trash can, and I've been very proud of him! He knows "Sit!", and I'm working on "Down" (he's almost got it!). He actually learns better with his toy rather than treats!

I just thought I'd let you know that I am absolutely falling in love with Max even though I've only had him a day so far, and I wanted to ask...How much was it to adopt him again? ;)
